From building fire-suppression systems to ensuring workplace safety, Jörg Pawlitz has transformed his fieldwork expertise into a commitment to protecting the teams at Calanbau Brandschutzanlagen GmbH in Germany. We meet a professional who places people at the heart of industry.
After a career spanning 46 years, Jörg Pawlitz has lost none of his curiosity or high expectations. A workplace safety specialist at Calanbau Brandschutzanlagen GmbH, a VINCI Energies Building Solutions – Fire Protection Solutions entity, he personifies a career path shaped by experience, real-world commitment and the drive to give meaning to every stage of his career.
It all began on the technical side. “At the beginning of my career, I was fascinated by the complexity of building large pipeline networks,” he remembers. In 1986, after an apprenticeship as a gas and water fitter, Jörg Pawlitz decided to specialise in the construction of fire-suppression systems. This was a crucial decision: “That passion for technical precision and safety has stayed with me throughout my career, from those first installations to the most complex industrial projects.”
Technical and human challenges
A site foreman from 1987, then installation manager from 1990, he has evolved over more than 30 years in a demanding environment, first in the Netherlands and later in Germany. In 2008, he joined GFA (Gesellschaft für Anlagenbau), a Fire Protection Solutions subsidiary in Gelnhausen, near Frankfurt. “I wanted to take on a new challenge and apply my leadership experience in an industrial environment,” he explains.
Mobile and flexible, he balances his work between his home in Hameln, south of Hanover, and numerous different sites. His day-to-day routine involves managing teams, coordinating subcontractors, material logistics, and ensuring strict compliance with VdS* standards.

On worksites, the unexpected is the norm. “Things rarely turn out as planned. Finding solutions for routing pipework or for assembly where theory and practice collide was a real challenge.”
This aspect is one that Jörg Pawlitz particularly relishes: being present in the field, solving technical problems and playing the role of mediator. “As the installation manager, I was a trusted advisor. It’s rewarding to unite a team of different personalities to achieve a result everyone is happy with.”
Protecting the teams
Over the years, he became increasingly aware of one thing: “The technology is important, but the safety of the people installing it is paramount”. In 2023, with thousands of hours of on-site experience to his name, Jörg Pawlitz decided to focus on workplace safety and joined Calanbau Brandschutzanlagen GmbH.
“I needed to do more than apply my practical knowledge; I wanted to actively contribute to making sure every colleague goes home safe and sound at the end of the day,” he says.
This voluntary change of direction required some demanding retraining: in September 2025, with the support of VINCI Energies, he obtained his SIFA certification as a workplace safety specialist. “I received all the support I needed, including through the training offered by the Academy internally.”
Today, Jörg Pawlitz identifies physical, technical and ergonomic risks, carries out regular inspections, raises awareness among the teams, and is involved in analysing accidents. “I have to present safety as a protection, never a constraint. I’m an advisor, not a law enforcement officer.”
Rich and diverse work
His role also involves the sustainable management of materials post assembly. “With a competent and dedicated team, we take care to ensure that materials are assessed and where possible, reincorporated into the recycling loop.”
This mission aligns with his vision: “Safety is the foundation of sustainable development. By protecting people and preventing accidents, we are also conserving resources.”
But what motivates him from day to day remains unchanged: “Contact with a diverse range of people, on worksites, in the factory, or with the team, is what brightens up my days.”
Of the VINCI Energies core values, responsibility is the one that guides his actions the most. “After decades of operational experience, my priority now is to transfer this responsibility into the realm of workplace safety.”
A huge fan of sailing, fishing and nature, in which he finds “a way to unwind that promotes concentration and serenity”, Jörg Pawlitz has set himself a clear course: “To instil a long-term safety culture, remain loyal to the business, and always lead by example – stagnation is not an option.”
