A platform to visually represent climate risks to infrastructure

Access to healthcare, employment, water, energy and digital services: different types of infrastructure are vital to a country’s social and economic activity. In France, infrastructure is an asset estimated to be worth over €2,000 billion. But how exposed is it to different climate risks? To raise awareness among public decision-makers of the need to protect these strategic installations, the French National Public Works Federation has created InfraClimat, an online platform providing visual representations of the impacts of climate change on French infrastructure. This free-to-access tool uses national and public data sources to analyse the exposure of three infrastructure types (roads, bridges and water treatment plants) to five climate risks (coastal flooding, inland flooding and extreme rainfall, heatwaves, drought and extreme heat, and shrink-swell in clay soils). It also offers a range of solutions based on studies and use cases.
