Solar flooring to accelerate renewable energy production in urban environments
Reading time: 1 min

Solum, a Spanish company specialised in renewable energy production, has installed a novel solution at San Ignacio de Bilbao High School in the form of 90 sq. metres of solar flooring laid on the school’s roof terrace. With installed power of 16 kWp, these solar floor tiles are expected to generate more than 25 MWh a year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of eight households. Implemented in collaboration with Omexom, the VINCI Energies energy infrastructure brand, this innovation enhances the prospects for renewable energy production in urban environments, as it allows the use of previously underused surfaces without a need for heavier infrastructure such as conventional roof-mounted solar panels.
