Cybersecurity: how to reconcile extra-tough security and process fluidity
Reading time: 3 min
Axians Italy has strengthened cybersecurity at a major aerospace transport company with the implementation of an integrated Cisco solution that meets strict security requirements while simplifying operations management.

In a sector as strategic as aerospace transport, data security is a mandatory and fundamental requirement. Axians Italy recently completed a large-scale cybersecurity project for a key player in the sector, implementing a solution based on Cisco FPR4245‑NGFW‑K9 firewalls and Nexus 9300 switches.
The customer is active in the management of satellite data for crucial applications relating to the environment, agriculture and urban planning, and needed to upgrade its security architecture. Its infrastructure is already highly specialised, so all this had to be done without increasing operational complexity.
“In this type of environment, security is just as important as reliability,” explains Marco Gasparri, Senior Sales Consultant at Axians Italy. “The objective was clear: to meet extremely high-level requirements without compromising the fluidity of internal operations.”
An integrated, standardised and effective solution
Axians proposed a unified infrastructure based exclusively on Cisco equipment. This native integration helped eliminate some of the friction inherent in managing multiple brands, while ensuring perfect compatibility with the existing environment, which is made up of Cisco SD‑LAN and SD‑WAN technologies.
“Real potential for expanding our role within this excellence-based technological ecosystem”
“Cisco was the natural choice in this context,” says Marco Gasparri. “The FPR4245‑NGFW‑K9 firewalls and Nexus 9300 switches integrate natively with the existing architecture without requiring any additional expertise on the customer’s part. That represents a major benefit in terms of operational efficiency.”
Compared with a well-established competitor in the cybersecurity market, Axians was able to demonstrate the superiority of the Cisco solution in this specific case, at the same time highlighting its own expertise as an integrator.
“This project hinged on more than the choice of equipment; it was also about our ability to build an economically viable solution,” explains Marco Gasparri. “We worked with Cisco at the Italian and European levels to obtain the pricing conditions necessary to outperform the competition.”
Tangible and recognised results
Technical teams from the Axians partner DXC executed the project. The solution is now operational and achieving performance in line with or superior to initial expectations. “The feedback is excellent,” says Marco Gasparri. “Not only has security been enhanced, but operations are now easier to manage, and the customer can be more confident of business continuity. This is genuine recognition of how well our approach works.”
Axians hopes to build on this success and continue its collaboration with this strategic customer. “We showed our ability to meet the highest standards. There is now real potential for expanding our role within this excellence-based technological ecosystem.”
The aim? To become the go-to technology provider not only for the core network, but also for other operational departments.
