SCHEMIRA: the Swedish AI revolutionising schematic management

Developed in Sweden by Actemium Energy AI, SCHEMIRA automates the analysis and management of complex schematics. Conceived within the Actemium network, this innovative solution transforms a time-consuming task into a high-added-value process. This is a tangible example of the benefits AI can bring to industrial engineering.
Developed in Sweden by the VINCI Energies subsidiary Actemium Energy AI, SCHEMIRA is an innovative artificial intelligence solution for the automation of engineering schematics. Designed to meet a very real need in the field, it transforms complex schematics into reliable data, structured to be used directly by engineering tools.
SCHEMIRA is based on a four-stage process: schematics are uploaded; symbols, text and connections are automatically identified according to the customer’s specifications; engineers verify the extracted data via an interactive interface; and finally, data is custom-exported to tools downstream.
This means that teams can concentrate on technical decisions and progressing projects rather than on lengthy and repetitive manual tasks.
A considerable reduction in manual tasks
The project originated in a simple observation made at Actemium in the Netherlands. “I realised that SCHEMIRA would represent a major step forward for our business unit by considerably reducing the manual tasks involved,” says Robert Gieben, Business Unit General Manager at Actemium AES Veghel. For years, engineers had been updating schematics manually, printing out and annotating plans then making the modifications in spreadsheets. This method was both time-consuming and error-prone.
“An intelligent, intuitive and effective solution”
To address this issue, the Dutch teams turned to their Swedish counterparts. “Our colleagues at Actemium Energy AI in Sweden have solid expertise in software development,” explains Robert Gieben. “So, we asked them to automate the schematics workflow.” Marie Kurtin, Business Unit General Manager and Leon Löwered, Head of Innovation and Technology at Actemium Energy AI, wasted no time in forming an ad hoc team.
A fully customisable solution
“Development of the basic solution took around 18 months; it has been operational since May 2025,” says Léon Löwered. He points out that as well as saving time, SCHEMIRA adds value as a quality-control tool. “SCHEMIRA not only improves processing times, it also functions as a quality-control tool, especially under stressful conditions when the risk of errors is greater.”
The solution is available to Actemium, the VINCI Energies industry brand, and its network on a pay-per-use basis with no up-front investment. “This facilitates access to the software and allows it to be costed like any other project tool,” explains Marie Kurtin, adding that the solution is fully customisable. “We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions – the system must adapt to the user and not the other way around.”
SCHEMIRA is already being used by a growing number of Actemium teams. “This is not a tool overloaded with functionality,” concludes Robert Gieben. “It’s an intelligent, intuitive and effective solution.”
