Jamie Kauffeld is one of the financial directors at VINCI Energies in the Netherlands, less than five years after joining the Group. Her remarkable career progression reflects the culture of autonomy, learning and internal mobility encouraged at VINCI Energies.
In barely five years, Jamie Kauffeld has risen through the ranks at an impressive rate. The 30-year-old from the Netherlands joined VINCI Energies in 2019, and since January 2024, has been a financial director at VINCI Energies in The Netherlands. The young woman attributes her rapid progress as much to her taste for diversity as to her ability to seize opportunities.
As a strategic management graduate of Tilburg University, she says that at the end of her secondary education, she had “no firm ideas” about her future career. “The strategic management course attracted me because of its diversity,” she explains. And this is the guiding thread she has never let go.
From controller to financial director
Her early days as an assistant controller at VINCI Energies would prove decisive. Quickly noticed for her effectiveness, she became the pole controller, then Group controller, before taking on the role of financial director within the Industry branche of VINCI Energies in The Netherlands, including Actemium and local brands businesss units, specialised in design and engineering.
“I work in tandem with a general manager to monitor and verify the nine business units’ results, but also to help them with their financial planning. I also oversee their administrative and financial teams, and their training in particular.”
“The QUARTZ training sessions teach you to adapt and challenge yourself with different viewpoints. It’s extremely rewarding.”
She particularly appreciates this cross-functional mission. “It brings the diversity I’ve always cherished: the unique features of each business activity, the wide range of professional profiles, and real freedom in organising my work, which is not limited to purely financial matters.”
Training and communicating
Her role as Financial Director requires an analytical mindset and overarching vision to anticipate changes and propose suitable responses. The rise of artificial intelligence in finance leaves Jamie Kauffeld unfazed: “AI will take over a lot of repetitive manual tasks, but analysis and consulting will remain the realm of human beings.”
The subject often comes up in the training sessions she has been delivering for three years as part of QUARTZ, the VINCI Energies management system that ensures all operations remain in line with the Group’s values. “When they asked me to give these training sessions, I felt it would be interesting to be able to fully explore and explain our values and where we are headed.”
Here too, the young financial director found what she was looking for in being able to share and converse with colleagues from different areas of expertise and different countries. “These training sessions teach you to adapt and challenge yourself with different viewpoints. It’s extremely rewarding.”
Her commitment in this area remains strong. As part of the VINCI Energies Academy, she collaborates with other financial directors in the Group to create up-to-date training on financial issues. The programme will be finalised in 2026.
The diversity of her missions, as a financial director and as a trainer, is not unpleasant to this hyperactive soul, who enjoys hiking as much as she does playing padel or weight training.
