What if a window could generate electricity?

Set up by MIT researchers, the company Ubiquitous Energy has designed so-called “UE Power” technology which allows visible light to pass through windows while harvesting energy from infrared and ultraviolet rays. Developed using light-absorbing dyes sourced from non-toxic materials, the innovation can generate electricity and integrate power generation into windows and surfaces of everyday objects like smartphones and tablets.
