In order to adapt to increasingly complex IT environments, Axians UK has developed an innovative “Observability as a Service” approach, with a platform that combines real-time visibility, business analytics and proactive performance management.

With information systems increasing in complexity, marked by strong growth in hybrid environments and distributed infrastructure, full control over security and performance is crucial. To address these issues, Axians UK developed Theia, an Observability as a Service (OaaS) solution designed in response to the visibility and management needs of various organisations.

Observability means understanding the internal state of a system based on external data. With Theia, this facility is offered in the form of a fully managed, supplier-independent service accessible via cloud platforms. The clear objective is to offer real-time visibility of all IT (information technology) and OT (operational technology) environments to enhance the resilience of business activities.

An independent, fully managed platform

Theia goes beyond conventional approaches. As Carlos Delgado, Head of Service Design at Axians UK explains, “Traditional solutions focus on the state of the infrastructure. Theia goes further in offering business-oriented observability.”

This approach links technical data (network, cloud, equipment) with services (applications, user experience) and the business context. The result is that organisations are no longer limited to asking whether the system is working, but can tell whether their business activity is affected, which fundamentally changes their decision-making.

“Moving beyond crisis management to proactive, results-oriented operations”

Another major advantage is that Theia is a fully managed, multi-supplier platform. “It is supplier-independent by design, and provided as a managed service rather than just software,” says Carlos Delgado.

This approach frees businesses from the restrictions inherent in proprietary solutions and simplifies the integration of different commercial and open-source tools. The fully customisable dashboards can be adapted to the needs of management, technical teams and operational teams.

But for Carlos Delgado, “Theia’s real strength lies in its ability to transform data into usable information”. The derived indicators, real-time dashboards and forecasting capabilities empower businesses to anticipate incidents, analyse underlying causes and optimise performance. This allows them to move from a reactive model to proactive management of their services.

Combining technical observability with business vision, technological independence and operational intelligence, Theia is an innovative solution for making information systems more robust. As Carlos Delgado explains, it enables businesses to “move beyond crisis management to proactive, results-oriented operations, with a direct impact on overall performance”.

Real-world added-value use cases

The OaaS solution from Axians UK has already been rolled out in several organisations, bringing significant benefits and added value.

In a project for one multinational company, Theia made it possible to consolidate data from multiple platforms to provide a global overview of the network. Business indicators such as faults cross-referenced with opening hours, and WAN(1) overload risks, helped to rapidly identify underperforming sites and prioritise actions. “Theia transformed network visibility into usable operational information,” says Carlos Delgado, Head of Service Design at Axians UK.

In addition to operational performance, Theia contributes to an organisation’s ESG objectives. By supplying data on energy consumption and emissions, the solution helps to measure and manage environmental impact, and facilitates regulatory compliance. The option to store only aggregated statistical data also ensures compliance with data protection requirements.

*WAN (Wide Area Network) is an information or telecommunication network covering a large geographical area.
