While the transformations in factories made possible by digital can reduce the environmental impact of industrial sites, they are still too fragmented to meet the colossal challenge of resource depletion. Industry therefore needs to look beyond decarbonisation alone, adopting circular economy models that incorporate the entire value chain in each sector, to consolidate and optimise the management of resources across a region, as close to demand as possible, to minimise environmental impacts, and to create local jobs. To help businesses and their partners accelerate large-scale adoption of these new approaches, the French Circular Economy Institute (INEC) and consulting firm Opeo published a report (in French) entitled “Pivoting towards circular industry. Which models? How to accelerate?” detailing over 120 pages the origins, methods and objectives of industrial circularity.
