China is stepping up its efforts to increase electricity generation from offshore wind farms. At the end of December, it announced the commissioning of three new projects, including the country’s largest offshore wind farm with the largest turbines, the first typhoon-resistant floating offshore wind farm, and the expansion of projects in eastern China. The national statistics administration in China recently reported that the country had reached 11.2GW of installed offshore wind capacity, overtaking the UK which, in late 2020, was still the global leader with 10.2GW of generation capacity from offshore wind farms.
