The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a global network of smart cities, awarded its 2016 prize for the top intelligent community to Montreal. The reasons behind this choice can be instructive for decision-makers building the city of the future: Montreal is a top-tier incubator for start-ups and citizen initiative, promoting training in the use of digital technologies for senior executives, maintaining an exceptionally high standard of higher education and research, and boasting an internet penetration rate of over 80%, with most connections at high speed.
