How far will robotic intelligence go? In a white paper entitled Physical AI: Powering the New Age of Industrial Operations, the World Economic Forum reviews the technological advances and endless potential industrial applications. The term Physical AI refers to systems capable not only of repeating actions, but of perceiving, reasoning and acting in unstructured environments, with new levels of dexterity in manipulating parts and other objects. Take the Sparrow robotic arm from Amazon, which uses generative AI and computer vision to identify, pick up and handle millions of differently shaped objects, or Gemini Robotics On-Device, the Google Deepmind VLA (vision-language-action) robotics model, which can autonomously decide to perform tasks – without an internet connection.
